Stella Cole released Imagination on October 30 through Decca Records US. Her third studio album returns to the Great American Songbook in an intimate voice-and-trio setting.

Pianist Michael Kanan, bassist Michael Migliore and drummer Hank Allen-Barfield accompany Cole on repertoire including “As Time Goes By” and “Polka Dots and Moonbeams.” The small ensemble places the singing and the songs at the center of the recording.

The release coincides with Cole’s Broadway debut in Maybe Happy Ending at the Belasco Theatre. Her limited engagement, continuing through November 20, has her playing Gil Brentley, with the character’s name pronounced “Jill” for her run. The album and stage role extend a career that first attracted attention through online interpretations of standards, then moved into concert rooms including Birdland and Carnegie Hall.
