Elysia Biro released “Clever” on October 2 through Universal Music Canada and Deutsche Grammophon. The new ballad centers on heartbreak and continues the jazz-pop approach established on her debut EP Running from Nothing.
Biro builds her writing around piano and jazz-trio foundations, with Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell among the influences identified in the announcement. The release connects her singer-songwriter perspective with phrasing and space drawn from jazz performance.
Her recent concert activity has included Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, the Great Escape, Toronto International Jazz Festival and Montreal International Jazz Festival. Those appearances place the new single within a period of growing international activity. “Clever” is available as an individual release, adding another recording to the catalog she has been developing since her first EP.
