The Met and Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments have announced an agreement covering three works formerly in Ceil Pulitzer’s collection. The September 21 announcement combines a transfer of ownership with arrangements for long-term display and research.

The works include a Yoruba terracotta horse head and Edo commemorative and queen-mother figures. The museum says the agreement will place ownership with the Nigerian commission while making the sculptures available for display in its Michael C. Rockefeller Wing. Collaborative study and digital documentation form part of the wider institutional relationship. The arrangement illustrates a specific model of ownership, lending and scholarly access described by both institutions.
