A Louis Armstrong concert recorded at Highland Park High School on March 19, 1957, is being prepared for its first release as One Night in Highland Park. “Ole Miss” is available as the project’s first single, according to the October 2 announcement.

Stage manager Joel Goldstein preserved the benefit performance using two Telefunken microphones and an Ampex reel-to-reel recorder. The concert raised funds for Highland Park Reform Temple and drew approximately 1,200 people to the school north of Chicago.

Armstrong’s All Stars for the performance included trombonist Trummy Young, clarinetist Edmond Hall, pianist Billy Kyle, bassist Squire Gersh and drummer Barrett Deems. The surviving tape documents a working band during a period that also included Ella and Louis and High Society. Its release brings a privately kept concert into the public catalog nearly seventy years after the original engagement.
