Newcastle jazz group Knats released A Great Night in Newcastle on October 23. The EP reworks songs from A Great Day in Newcastle, with contributors including Nadine Shah, Man Power, Squid, corto.alto and Frankie Archer.

The featured release, “7 Bridges to Burn (Nadine Shah and Man Power’s Return to the Bridges),” brings Shah’s voice together with Man Power’s electronic production. The reworking retains Cooper Robson’s writing about working-class experience and North East identity while moving the track into a nighttime setting.

The EP arrived after Knats performed “Wor Jackie” at the Mercury Prize ceremony, where their album was shortlisted. Rather than a follow-up studio album, the new release offers alternate readings of existing material, connecting the band’s jazz foundation to collaborators from electronic music, experimental rock and regional folk traditions.
