John Mayer released “Tom and Jerry” on October 23, introducing his next solo chapter alongside a business announcement. Sob Rock Records, Mayer’s own label, is launching in partnership with Mercury Records.

Mayer co-produced the single with Blake Slatkin. Recorded at Chaplin Studios, the song premiered on Mayer’s SiriusXM channel, LIFE with John Mayer, before its wider release. A live-vocal video was also announced for release day.

The official announcement identifies “Tom and Jerry” as Mayer’s first new solo release since the 2021 album Sob Rock. His new label takes its name from that record, connecting the partnership to an established part of his catalog. The single and video provide the immediate listening material; the announcement does not supply a release date or title for a new full-length album.
