Ester Expósito leads Mar Coll’s new La Regenta adaptation

Production has begun on La Regenta, a Netflix film based on Leopoldo Alas’s Spanish novel. Mar Coll directs and co-writes the adaptation, with Ester Expósito taking the lead role of Ana Ozores.

Producer María Zamora and Elastica Films are behind the project, the company’s first collaboration with Netflix. The ensemble includes Oriol Pla, Vito Sanz, Borja Luna, Clara Ingold, Ana Torrent and Itsaso Arana. The story follows a woman whose dissatisfaction with her marriage becomes entangled with religious authority, desire and public judgment in Vetusta. Netflix has announced the production start without setting a release date.
